Kevin Applegate
Kevin started wood carving with his father in the mid-1980s, carving mostly whimsies and walking sticks. Following a hiatus due to a fulfilled life with family and career advancements, he was once again inspired to pick up an old hobby after attending a carving show. While attending the show, hoping to reignite an old passion, Kevin decided to sign up for a caricature class on a whim with Pete LeClair. This began his love affair with caricature wood carving. In the spirit of the age old adage, “Carve what you know”, Kevin enjoys carving caricature firefighters.
After over 30 years with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Kevin, along with his wife of 34 years, Carolyn, retired to Clarksville, Georgia.
Kevin has been a member of numerous woodcarving organizations throughout Florida. In 2019, he was proud to be elected as a member of the Caricature Carvers of America. After moving to Georgia, he was unable to locate any woodcarving groups within a 50 mile range so he established The Sautee Nacoochee Woodcarvers, which have been meeting regularly for the past few years. This coupled with teaching beginning woodcarving classes at the local Technical College has exposed a new group of people to woodcarving in the North Georgia area.
When not wood carving, you can find Kevin hiking local trails with Carolyn and their new dog, Max. Or traveling to New York or Kentucky to visit their two daughters, Kelly and Katey, who were their pride and joy, until their first grandchild, Knox, came along.
